There are many things LA is known for, but unfortunately, chocolate chip cookies is not one of them. After combing through chocolate chip cookie guides, New York is pretty much the king of chocolate chip cookies in the US. I was impressed by the amount of French-owned businesses that only specialize in chocolate chip cookies. While there are some good places in LA like Milk and Jars and Didie’s Reisy, it’s not like these places are at the top of the dessert food chain in the LA food scene. Milk Bar LA, originally in NY, also offers cookies, but these have mixed reviews and they’re best known for their cakes. NY-based bakery Dominique Ansel, known for their cookie shots, closed their LA location at The Grove in September 2020. Another place was Platine Cookies on Washington Blvd, which also closed a few years ago. To put the nail in the coffin, in February 2021, Eatthis compiled a list of the best chocolate chip cookies in every state and LA did not make the cut: B Patisserie in San Francisco was the winner. Poor cookies can’t catch a break in LA! 🙁
When you see cookies in coffee shops, most of the time they’re treated like an afterthought: the cookies sit behind the glass counter for hours and the employees mindlessly throw them in the microwave if somebody wants to purchase one. I recall eating Chips Ahoy when I was little, but my experience with chocolate chip cookies doesn’t go further than that.
My biggest gripe when it comes to cookies is the rock-like texture and how overly sweet most of them are, which is why I always steer clear of them and never give them a chance.
The following place you’ll read about was founded in December 2020 by LA-native couple and cookie aficionados, Caroline and Ren. I’m beyond excited to be the first blog ever to write about Bake Some Noise.
They’re still in the early stages, but I know their business will expand into greater heights and I am happy to give them the exposure they deserve. It was about time someone came up with a cool concept and gave chocolate chip cookies some love.
Upon finding them on Instagram, I loved the endearing cookie logo and their fresh, different approach to chocolate chip cookies. They currently have three flavors: chocolate chip, chocolate chip + walnut and chocolate chip + peanut butter chips.
“As of now we sell them by the dozen but will be offering different quantity options very soon! Each cookie is 3oz in weight, so not too big or too small. They come individually wrapped and we’ve had customers freeze them in double ziplock bags for weeks! Just warm them in the oven when you’re ready to eat.” – Caroline and Ren explained.
Delivery / shipping process:
“Every Thursday we open for pre-orders on our website until sold out. More cookies are added each week and we announce this on our IG page. As of now, we deliver locally in LA the following Saturday after your order is placed and ship out all other orders the following Monday. The cookies are baked the night before delivery and are no more than one hour old when they are individually packaged. This is to make sure they’re as fresh as possible when they arrive!“
I’ve never felt more excited in my life to get cookies. If Caroline and Ren end up opening a brick-and-mortar location, I hope they don’t discontinue their delivery service in LA. There is something about waiting to receive a box of cookies on your doorstep that reminded me of Santa. The cookies promptly arrived and I also got a confirmation text message.
As the packaging instructed, and as Caroline and Ren strongly suggested, I threw them in the oven for 5 minutes at 350 degrees. You may heat them in the microwave, but by baking them in the oven, it will create the crispy edges that the microwave won’t achieve.

“Cookies definitely do not belong in the microwave! 😉 Of course people are entitled to do whatever they want with their cookies, but we strongly suggest going the oven way because it creates that beautiful crunchy edge exterior while heating up the interior to that yummy gooey consistency. It’s the only way to reheat a cookie in our opinion! (Many of our customers would agree!).”
After one bite, I went straight to cookie heaven. I’ve never had a chocolate chip cookie like that in my life. It was simultaneously crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth soft goodness on the inside. It was semi sweet and not chewy at all, which was key for me. As Caroline and Ren stated above, it had a “yummy gooey consistency”.
Because the cookie is so fresh, if you hold it for longer than 6 seconds, your fingers will make an indentation in it. The chocolate-to-cookie ratio was perfect. In many places, you may get tiny bits of chocolate chips, but at Bake Some Noise, every bite will have plentiful amounts of melted chocolate in it.
The cookies are also ready to eat straight out of the box and at room temperature!
“Although it may look “under baked”, we can most certainly say that our cookies are not. This gooey texture is intentional and what we are lovingly known for! This is a matter of preference but should it be of any concern, the customer is more than welcome to reheat for longer than the suggested 5 minutes. However, we wouldn’t be able to guarantee the gooey interior ;)“
⬆️ This specific cookie is a must for those PB lovers out there. The way the chocolate and the peanut butter melted together in my mouth was a unique experience for sure. The chocolate and the peanut butter chips are meticulously spaced to balance each other so that neither overpowers the other in each bite.
The chocolate chip + walnut was also very rich in flavor and decadent. Although you could taste the walnuts, these definitely didn’t overpower the chocolate chips, which are, without a doubt, the star of the show.
If you still need further proof of Caroline and Ren’s undying devotion to chocolate chip cookies, each cookie is carefully inspected before shipping.
As it says on the box, don’t forget the milk!! I had mine with oat milk. My tastebuds thoroughly enjoyed the juxtaposition of the warm cookie crunchiness and the cold milk.

“We ship nationwide so these packages went as far as New York, Hawaii, Texas, NorCal, and of course all around SoCal!”

Check out the amazing backstory of Bake Some Noise, Caroline and Ren’s favorite restaurants in LA, as well as the future of plans for the brand!
What made you open a cookie business?
We have always loved eating and trying new cookies, especially Ren who our family and friends call the cookie monster. We didn’t know anything about baking, but we were always on the lookout for the perfect cookie. We’ve been to bakeries in LA, NY and 15 different countries around the world, but never found what we considered to be the PERFECT cookie. We decided one day a few years ago to try and make our perfect cookie. We bought a $25 mixer from Target and started playing around with recipes we found online. After many failed attempts, revisions and countless taste-tests with family and friends we finally created our perfect cookie recipe! We would only give our cookies as gifts to family and friends but after so many positive reviews we decided to bite the bullet and open our online store! To our surprise, we sold out in the first hour after opening!
Where did you grow up?
We were both born and raised in LA. I (Caroline) grew up in Silver Lake (before it was cool) and Ren grew up in North Hollywood. We both had great childhoods and are definitely spoiled by the weather and all the different amazing food we have access to.
What are your favorite restaurants, places in LA and what do you like about the city?
Food – There are so many amazing food places in LA but a few of our favorite casual restaurants are: Hoy’s Wok, Al Basch Grill, Tacos 1986, Pura Vita, Monty’s Burgers and Sidecar Doughnuts.
Places – We live by a hiking trail called Runyon Canyon so we run there almost every morning and hike. We also love to eat and walk around The Grove when we have free time (which isn’t often any more!). The best part about growing up in LA is that we’ve had the opportunity to make friends with people from all over the world who come to live here! It’s been amazing to learn about different cultures and to try so many different cuisines!
As owners, what has been the best part about Bake Some Noise?
Seeing people genuinely enjoy what we’re putting out in the world!
It says on the FAQ section that you’re currently working on a vegan chocolate chip and vegan chocolate chip walnut cookie! Is there anything else you want to share about this? For anyone reading this who’s vegan, what can they expect?
Yes! Caroline is vegan so it has always been part of our plan to have vegan cookies on the menu! We have almost perfected our vegan cookie recipes and they will hopefully be available to buy in April!
What are the future plans of Bake Some Noise?
We plan to expand our menu items, grow our online merch store and ultimately get a storefront where people can enjoy our cookies fresh from the oven!
Can you tell me the inspiration behind the name of Bake Some Noise?
The inspiration behind the name Bake Some Noise came from a very commonly used phrase in the nightlife industry – “Make Some Noise”. Ren‘s background is in DJing so it just came naturally to create the play on words for our company name!
All in all, Bake Some Noise will definitely make noise and cause big waves in the LA dessert scene. I can’t wait to see their business grow! Stay tuned for their vegan chocolate chip cookies!
On May 8th, 2021, Bake Some Noise hosted their first pop-up appearance at Songbird Cafe in Chinatown. This collaboration will run from May 8th to June 8th and hours will vary.
“We launched a new six-pack option, exclusive merch and a build-your-own box option.”
On the weekends, Caroline and Ren will be there. Just make sure to go before noon. I went there at 2 pm and they were already sold out!!! Caroline showed me a completely empty tray rack. They only had a few chocolate chip cookie flavors left in the back but they were completely out of the rest of the flavors!
Plan accordingly, and leave early because traffic on the 101 freeway is no joke, even on the weekends.
SongBird Cafe will also sell the cookies throughout the week, but on the weekends, Caroline and Ren will take up the entire space with live DJ music, coffee, and of course, cookies! The first weekend pop-up was a success and I can’t wait for them to open their own brick-and-mortar! The artwork on the walls is also beautiful. NO CASH!
Prices:
1-5 individual cookies: $3.25/each.
6-pack box: $19/box.
1 dozen box: $36/box.
