If you wear makeup on a regular basis, I’m sure you are perfectly acquainted with the difficulty of getting everything off.
I’ve gone from makeup wipes to cleansing oils, which I think is a pretty big step for someone like me who used to be completely frugal when it came to skincare and makeup. However, there’s one caveat: even after I double-cleanse and go over with my chemical exfoliator, there are some traces of makeup left behind, which is my biggest pet peeve. Just when you think everything is off, BAM! a brown stain of bronzer pops up on my cotton pad after using two cleansers. Is it just me that gets bothered by this?!
No one has the time to spend 15 minutes just rubbing their face trying to get all the makeup off, let alone shell out $199 for a Clarisonic device.
Today I’m going to talk about Face Halo, a makeup remover that was created in May 2017 by Rebecca Williamson and Lizzie Pike, who has over 10 years of experience in the microfiber technology field. Face Halo has been a complete game changer in my routine and works like magic. This is not sponsored in any way, but if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I love writing about products I’m super passionate about.
Face Halo piqued my interest when I saw Kelly Gale’s night routine on Harper’s Bazaar’s Youtube Channel. Given the endorsement by influencers and glowing Youtube reviews, I thought it was a gimmick, you know, like one of those infomercial products you see on TV – too good to be true. Boy was I wrong! Face Halo has been praised by celebrity makeup artists due to its effectiveness at removing makeup.
Do you remember the scene in Mulan where she takes off her makeup with her hand in one swipe? Yep, that’s Face Halo in a nutshell.
What sets Face Halo apart?
This pads are eco-friendly and sustainable, and one pad can be used up to 200 times. Think of how many makeup wipes and cotton pads are used and tossed away whenever we take our makeup off. One Face Halo pad equals 500 makeup wipes. Crazy!
You only need warm water, although I prefer to double it up with a cleansing oil.
It’s also cost-efficient and non-toxic.
Chloe Morello, an Australian Youtuber who I think is one of the most genuine Youtubers out there, is the spokesperson of the brand.
The fibers of Face Halo are specially designed to make sure no makeup goes back on your face like it would with a regular microfiber cloth or a makeup wipe, where you’re just basically dragging the makeup across your face.
Since the Face Halo fibers are so fine, they’re able to reach into your pores and clean your face 10 times more efficiently than an ordinary wash cloth, providing you a gentle exfoliation. The tiny microfibers easily penetrate into your pores and the texture of the fibers are as soft as a marshmallow.
If you’re the laziest person when it comes to taking off your makeup, Face Halo will change your life. In the long run, not only is it going to help you save big bucks on makeup wipes and cotton pads, but they also help you protect the environment.
Face Halo comes in a pack of three and retails for $22, which considering how long the shelf-life is, is not that bad. There are many knock-offs on Amazon and similar sites for a quarter of the price but honestly, the effectiveness and technology of Face Halo beat other knockoff brands by a long shot. Face Halo fibers are much softer and require less rubbing.
Side note: Despite its powerful effect à la Mulan, don’t forget to clean your face afterwards! The Face Halo pads are not meant to double as a cleanser.
Use
I put on cleansing oil on my face as I usually do, then instead of splashing water, I apply warm water on the Halo pad and proceed to swipe it across my face, especially on my hairline. I also gently press the pad on my eyes. I can feel the cleanliness of my skin afterwards. After using a gel-based cleanser and rinsing my face, I go over with my chemical exfoliator and voila! No annoying makeup debris comes off. Before you say “umm…well, microfiber cloths are the same”, based on my research I can say that not all microfiber cloths are created equal. I too was skeptical at first, but I could feel how the pad was removing everything as I swiped it across my face.
You don’t need to apply any pressure! Just gentle wiping motions.
The dangers of not completely removing all your makeup are clogged pores and bacterial buildup.
It is recommended to wash the Face Halo after every use with bar soap. This is not a beauty blender! Do not use liquid hand soap because it’s not going to work! You will see all the makeup drain down the sink and the pad will come out as white as when you first used it. If you don’t wash it, it will stain and you don’t want to use a dirty pad the next time you’re taking off your makeup. Any bar soap will do. You can also throw them in the washing machine, but if you do, make sure you don’t use fabric softener since this can alter the microfibers and the shelf-life, making them less effective. I prefer to wash them with bar soap so I know that nothing is being compromised.
If you’re a beauty junkie, you probably have seen the countless celebrities featured on Harpers Bazaar’s Youtube Channel walking us through their night time routine. Most of them use Neutrogena makeup wipes and then proceed to harshly tug their skin and under eyes. If you want to educate yourself on the subject, I highly recommend checking out Susan Yara’s Youtube Channel, Mixed Make Up, where she shares her funny reactions and constructive criticism.
Halo Beauty has also come out with the Halo Pro, which was designed for makeup artists, but instead of being white, they’re black. After reading a few reviews, the pros aren’t as effective as the original white ones, and they are much stiffer. Plus, it’s super satisfying to see all the makeup coming off on the white plush pad.
Face Halo also released the Face Halo body, which is meant to work as an exfoliating loofah pad.
If you live in LA, you can get Face Halo at any Riley Rose store. If you live anywhere else, you can also order them online through the official website.
Don’t forget the check out their Instagram!
