Hey foodies! If you live in LA, I’m going to let you in on a secret spot not many angelenos are aware of: Smorgasburg. With its original location in Brooklyn NY, Smorgasburg LA opened its doors to angelenos in June 2016. Not only does it offer an array of unique tasty foods that you won’t find elsewhere in LA, but also pop-up clothing shops and beauty product stands.
The place is open every Sunday from 10 pm to 4 pm and it’s on Bay and Alameda St. in Downtown L.A. The market is located behind the big parking structure that’s next to a huge fish warehouse.
It is very easy to get there since there are signs with the market name on it that will guide you to the parking lot.
The parking, as aforementioned, is on a big structure and there’s plenty of space. It’s 2 hours free with validation, which is a steal in a place like Downtown LA.
Some of the food vendors are more popular than others. I came for the Instagram’s popular garlic butter shrimp in a pineapple from Shrimp Daddy and all of a sudden, I was bombarded by messages from friends urging me to tell them where I got that from.
I also have to highlight Amazebowls. This stand has aesthetically perfect acai bowl in a coconut shell with edible flowers! It’s $8 but worth the money.

Other stands include tacos, delicious pastrami, sushi and other array of different food types. I went on a rainy Sunday afternoon so luckily it wasn’t crowded. The prices are understandably high considering you’re getting quality food. Besides, food trucks are not exactly cheap.
If you want to spend a low-key fun Sunday, this is the perfect place to go for Instagram food photos, that will surely trigger food envy among your followers and friends!
The reason why this market has gotten so much positive feedback, is the fact that they serve food in a very unique way. The place opened its doors last year, so its not immensely popular like other LA food hot spots, where people line up on a Sunday morning to get lunch. From a marketing/PR viewpoint, social media has been an exceptional platform to spread this amazing outdoor market that celebrates the diversity of LA and brings people together for their love of food.
