I can’t believe that after almost two and a half years of living in LA, I’ve just recently found out about The Now.
The Now is a massage boutique located smack dab in the middle of the busy heart of Fairfax, where LA’s most famous shopping center, The Grove, meets Pan Pacific Park, Erewhon Market and CBS Studios. This area is also home to the biggest community of Orthodox Jews (what a pretty bizarre combination right?). If you go to Escuela Taqueria, which is right next door, you’d think The Now is just an interior design store in the area.
Sunset Foot Spa is my holy-grail and the best massage place in LA. Trust me, before finding Sunset Foot Spa, I tried looooots of places all the way from Burbank to West LA.
Anyhow, I wanted to switch things up and give other places a try without breaking the bank. So, I did some research on Google and came across a list of the best massage places in LA, and The Now happened to be one of them. A Youtuber I watch also mentioned the Now, which gave me the push I needed to finally make an appointment. The Now is incredibly popular among influencers in LA and their Instagram game is on point.
Looking at their menu, they have a wide selection of massages that range from sports to prenatal to even kid’s massage. The Now accommodates everyone’s needs and has something for everyone. It’s also reasonably priced. The massages start at $35, which is a steal for a boutique-style place like this.
If this isn’t enough, the décor is very bohemian. I felt like I was in Palm Springs or Joshua Tree! What really surprised me is how big the back of this place is, considering the busy location it’s in.
Once you walk into The Now, you’ll immediately feel a sense of calm and heightened mindfulness.

I opted for the Healer Massage. There are also additional add-ons for $10. I chose the fresh mask (for those stubborn dark circles under the eyes). Unfortunately, it wasn’t groundbreaking but at least I got an extra one to take home!
My masseuse that day was Jose. He was amazing and I recommend him 100%. Not only was he thorough on each part of my body, but he was super considerate asking me about the pressure level, and his attention to detail was impeccable. I feel like I’m cheating on Sunset Foot Spa, but this was one of the best massages I’ve had in a while. The ambiance, the dimmed lights, the ocean background sounds and the excellent service encapsulated my delightful experience there. This massage is supposed to be light, but you can intensify the pressure as much as you want.
If you’re on a budget or you want to test it out, you can also opt for either the seated massage in the waiting area, or a 25-minute service which is done lying down in the bed (I would choose the latter). I’ll say this though, the 50-minute massage went by in the blink of an eye!!! On my next visit, I will most likely book the 2-hour service. If you’ve never been there before, I would get their full-body signature massage.
❤Get there early! At least 10 minutes before, especially if you don’t live in the area and it’s your first time. You must fill out a waiver prior to your session, and you don’t want to spoil your experience by rushing it.
❤Parking really sucks!! If it gets to the point where you can’t find parking literally anywhere, I suggest parking across the street at Erewhon Market, where they offer 1-hour validation.
❤The front-desk staff recommends taking the massage in the late hours of the day, when the lights are dimmed, making your experience more relaxed and Zen! You will sleep like a baby!
❤They’ve been opened for 3 years. Whaaaaaat?!? So even before I moved here in September 2015, they were open already?? Thank God for my research skills.
❤Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged.
❤They have different locations across LA: Santa Monica, Silver Lake, Studio City and West Hollywood. The Now is accessible to everyone in LA!
Whether you want to indulge in a full-body relaxing massage or you just want a quick stress release, The Now is the place to relax and leave your worries behind. I love the location it’s in: ideal for a nice dinner afterwards (Terroni, Jon & Vinny’s, Escuela Taqueria, Angelini Osteria anyone?) The options are plentiful!
I loved the concept of The Now. A boutique-style massage that is budget-friendly and tied to mindfulness practice. The services, the space… everything was amazing!!!
The Now has become my haven where I can unwind and “be in the now”. (But you should live in the present moment every single day. See my post about mindfulness here).
