We all know Los Angeles boasts the best Mexican food in the country. Founded by native Angelena Brittney Valles, Gogo’s Tacos offers a fun, and artistic approach to traditional Mexican food.
This specific area of LA is dotted with Mexican restaurants, but what makes Gogo’s Tacos stand out from their competitors is their bright retro design and their high quality, sustainable ingredients.
Brittney shared with LA Eater: “I want to create something that’s super familiar, super straightforward, something to take while commuting.”
The business sits in a parking lot at a busy intersection on Beverly Blvd, just a few blocks away from Interstate 101. Location-wise, it’s great that they have parking because trust me, it can be a nightmare to find a parking spot in this area.
A great bonus about Gogo’s Tacos is that a percentage of their proceeds goes to the Juan Carlos Cantoni Foundation, a non-profit that supports youth and mental health in LA.
I spoke to Andrea, the employee, who told me that you could definitely taste the difference between Gogo’s and your run-of-the-mill taco place. Something that I particularly liked was the simplicity of their menu. While I was reading the reviews, I saw that many people praised their mushroom burrito, not only because it was really good, but because it was unusual.
You can either eat your food outside at one of the brightly colored tables, or you can sit inside with the colorful rainbow art wall and the mural of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The design team behind this amazing decor was Born In June Creative Studio.
You place your order at the walk-up window, where they’ll give you a number and call you when your food is ready.
I ordered the carnitas burrito. From the first bite, I knew that I was in for a treat! The flour-tortilla was soft, the refried beans were really tasty and creamy, and the carnitas meat was deliciously tender and juicy. The sliced onions were tangy and the chopped cilantro added the perfect kick. I’m a rice fiend, so I wish they had put a little bit more rice in the burrito, but that’s just me nitpicking. Later that night, I looked at the menu in better detail, and I realized you could also order a side of rice in two sizes.
Not my best picture, but it was so good!!
As you can see, the burrito was the perfect size.
Andrea was right! I don’t eat meat that often, but after having the burrito, I wasn’t feeling sluggish or super full. Not too long ago at my job, I had to order burritos for the office from a different taco shop, and a few people told me that the meat burritos were just too much for their stomachs.
I had some room left for dessert, so I went back to the walk-up window and ordered a vanilla cone. Mind you, I’m not a soft serve person and I wasn’t expecting anything groundbreaking, but when I tried it I was blown away. The vanilla flavor was so rich and it was the perfect way to end my meal on a hot sunny fall day in LA.
If you want to take your soft serve up a few notches, you can either order the dipped cone or the float!
Since Gogo’s Tacos is still in their opening stages, they’re currently in the process of hiring more people, so please be patient with your order.
The hours are 11 AM to 9 PM daily. So the next time you have a hankering for Mexican food, you know where to go!
